The sale’s stand-out lot was Lot 86, Red Doc 5372 and heifer calf 7437, as this unique pair offered marbling and some of the most modern genetics in the breed. This high-selling lot was sold to Wiley Ranch, Deville, La., for $28,000. Several other females sold well, and the cattle were a good representation of modern, industry-based Santa Gertrudis cattle.

The 2017 South Texas Heritage Sale was the biggest and best to date! Thank you to everyone who joined us in Robstown. A total of 151 head of Santa Gertrudis and STAR 5 females were sold.
The high-selling lot was consigned by the King Ranch, Kingsville, Texas, and was sold to Cherokee Ranch, Sedalia, Colo. Tom Martin of La Campana Ranch, George West, Texas, was awarded the 2017 Heritage Breeder award by the South Texas Santa Gertrudis Association.
La Campana Ranch, Hefte Ranch, Hondo and Agua Dulce, Texas, and Strait Ranches, Carrizo Springs, Texas, all donated Legacy Lot heifers. Two Legacy heifers were purchased by Wunderlich Farms, Brenham, Texas, and one was purchased by Kenley Kincannon, West Columbia, Texas. The donated Legacy Lots averaged $4,250 per head.

The South Texas Heritage Sale was held in Robstown, Texas Nov. 19. There were many interested buyers, old members and new members who came out to view the 96 head of cattle. Despite a weak cattle market, prices held up well for quality purebred and STAR 5 females. There was a lot of excitement generated by the King Ranch consignment, KR 36/15, a moderate-framed, polled bred heifer with excellent carcass numbers. The high-selling female, King Ranch 36/15, was consigned by King Ranch and sold to Wiley Ranch. John Martin of John Martin Ranches received the first annual Heritage Breeder Award for his contributions to the Santa Gertrudis breed and many years of membership in the South Texas Santa Gertrudis affiliate.
